Established in 1890, it was formed through the merger of the Armour Institute and Lewis Institute in 1940. Illinois Tech is also expanding its global presence. In 2025, it became the first U.S. university approved to establish a campus in India, with plans to open a campus in Mumbai in fall 2026.
